This animation shows what happens to the energy as it is stored and released
from the spring that the crank is mounted on. As the spring is compressed,
the energy delivered to the chain lags behind the energy delivered to the
pedal. When the energy is released from the spring and the bottom bracket
is pushed back up, the chain energy catches back up to the pedal
energy. Notice how the bottom
bracket center point moves down and up on the crank arm position graph. |
